I took the 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander for a spin to see how it holds up not only as a used car with 34k miles, but how it compares to its better selling rivals, the Toyota Rav-4 and the Honda CR-V! While I found its 2.4L, 4 cylinder engine to be tragically underpowered, with a CVT that didn’t quite know when to upshift, its intelligent all-wheel drive system kind of makes up for lack of power. Mitsubishi’s own S-AWC (super all wheel control), developed for the Lancer Evo back in 2007 is welcomed onto this otherwise basic Outlander ES.
Speaking of ES, this base model trim doesn’t offer much in the way of features and options, so springing for a fully loaded Outlander might be the better move. They don’t cost all that much more, and you get amenities like powered leather seating, a sunroof, pushbutton start, plus active safety technology.
Even still, you’ll find a used Outlander for approx $2k cheaper than a Rav-4 or a CR-V, which is a big plus about this under-appreciated underdog. Watch my video to find out more, and don’t forget to subscribe!!
